Digital Access for Women: UN Women Mobile Application PoC
Project Description
Community Systems Foundation partnered with UN Women to develop a Proof of Concept (PoC) for a mobile application aimed at empowering women in underdeveloped regions through access to vital information and services.
The proposed mobile platform serves as a centralized directory where women can access essential resources on agriculture, education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and civil rights. The application architecture was designed to host multiple sub-applications, each tailored to specific user needs, including Women Farmer, Women in Humanitarian Contexts, Women Entrepreneur, and Women Innovator.
Developed for both Android and iOS, the PoC tested the system’s scalability, usability, and offline functionality for low-connectivity environments. UN Women envisioned distributing low-cost Android devices preloaded with the app to women in rural and marginalized communities, ensuring one-stop access to critical information that promotes livelihoods, rights awareness, and economic participation.
This initiative represents an important step in digital inclusion, offering an adaptable foundation for future large-scale deployment across countries.
