Enhancing Financial Transparency through the Global Sanitation Fund Reporting Tool

Global
2015

Project Description

CSF in collaboration with the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), developed the Financial Reporting Tool — a web-based platform designed to strengthen financial planning, reporting, and accountability for the Global Sanitation Fund (GSF).

The GSF finances national sanitation and hygiene programmes in developing countries, enabling governments and partners to reach the most marginalized populations. As the fund expanded its resource base and portfolio, the need arose for a centralized, standardized, and data-driven reporting system.

The Financial Reporting Tool serves as a one-stop platform for grantees, sub-grantees, and Executive Agencies, allowing them to input financial data in a uniform format. The system automatically aggregates, validates, and generates analytical reports on expenditures, revenues, and budget utilization — supporting the Fund’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Knowledge Management (MEKM) framework.

By ensuring consistent financial tracking and enabling real-time insights, the tool promotes transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in managing global sanitation and hygiene investments. It also strengthens technical support to country programmes and contributes to WSSCC’s mission of delivering safe sanitation and hygiene services to underserved communities.
