Amategeko - Burundi Legal Resource and Document Portal
Project Description
UNDP has partnered with the Centre d’Études et de Documentation Juridiques (CEDJ) to design and develop an online legal documentation portal. This initiative aims to make laws, treaties, court rulings, regulations, and other legal texts freely accessible to all, thereby strengthening access to justice, legal research, and good governance in Burundi.
Since its creation, the CEDJ has built a comprehensive legal database that compiles all documentary resources produced since the country’s independence in 1962. This database provides open access to the full corpus normative national, offering a valuable reference for citizens and legal professionals alike. However, the current system remains offline, limiting the visibility and reach of this rich collection. The new Burundi Legal Knowledge Portal will bridge this gap by offering a modern, web-based platform that makes Burundi’s legal resources accessible anytime, anywhere.
The objective of the project was to digitalize and expand public access to Burundi’s legal corpus through a user-friendly online portal that connects citizens, legal practitioners, scholars, and institutions with reliable, up-to-date legal information.
