AfghanInfo Mobile App: Expanding Access to Socioeconomic Data in Afghanistan
Project Description
To make socioeconomic data more accessible and inclusive, CSF in collaboration with UNICEF Afghanistan and the Central Statistics Organization (CSO), developed the AfghanInfo Mobile Application—a mobile extension of the AfghanInfo DevInfo database.
Originally launched in 2007, AfghanInfo pools national data from multiple sources including the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS), the National Census, and various administrative datasets. In 2015, the platform was expanded with the release of a mobile application, allowing users across Afghanistan to easily access, visualize, and share data.
Designed for students, researchers, policymakers, and citizens, the app provides interactive data visualizations through tables, charts, and maps. Users can view indicators at national or provincial levels, download data profiles, and share visualizations via social media—making national statistics more transparent, timely, and user-friendly.
This initiative significantly increased public engagement with official statistics, democratizing access to data for evidence-based decision-making and research-driven policy dialogue.
